Family Pride and Local Family Advocacy Groups
Posted by Liza under News!!!
Are you involved with Family Pride or a local GLBT family advocacy organization in your community?
If you are, what do you get out of it? What do you think other people get out of it? Is it doing a good job in your community? What could it do better?
If you aren’t, is there one in your community? If so, what keeps you away or out of being involved?
On Thursday evening, I went to a Family Pride fundraiser here in Atlanta. The most surprising thing, for me, was to find that everyone else there except for Jennifer Chrisler was a Dad. And in conversation, it became clear that the dads all felt like MEGA was “all moms.”
I don’t have a good working theory yet on why that is.
It was great talking with Jennifer at the event — not only is she a fellow Smith alumna — but she’s also articulate, funny, and full of ideas for what we can do around the country to help support and protect GLBT families and family advocacy organizations.

Buffalo has their Pride Fest the first weekend of June. Hope to see everyone there. We’re taking our new son - we’ll be the ones with the matching yellow t-shirts that say - love makes a family with a big rainbow heart.
