Family Pride and Local Family Advocacy Groups

Are you involved with Family Pride or a local GLBT family advocacy organization in your community?
If you are, what do you get out of it? What do you think other people get out of it? Is it doing a good job in your community? What could it do better?
If you aren’t, is there one in [...]

Progress in the Granite State

Any New Hampsherites out there?
It’s a good day for you, and a good day for our queer family. As of January 1st, New Hampshire will officially offer rights and recognition to same-sex couples in the form of civil unions.
Marriage, it’s not, but it’s a big step forward.

Obit

(This post is cross-posted over at Round is Funny)
My wife, NSG’s, step-grandfather died last week, and the family has been busily planning a memorial service for him and making plans to fly in from Kentucky, Hawaii, and other far-flung places.
The emails have been flying between NSG’s stepmother and her siblings, and the other day she [...]

Weekend Reading: More on Non-Bio Momhood

Following up on Lesbian Dad’s post Friday, I wanted to point out some other bloggers who have been talking about how it feels when you consider yourself a mother, but it’s your partner that’s pregnant or the one who gave birth.
Sarah at Journey of a Co-Mom de-briefs us on their Easter visit with her partner’s [...]

Don’t know nothin’ ’bout biology

Okay so the fifties doo-wop tune actually said “geography,” rather than “biology.” But it gets us started. Today I wanted to draw your attention to a great, pithy post by Trista, one of the contributors to this forum. Her piece, Advice to Bio Moms, is a great catalyst for thought about how [...]

Children of the Future

This is a tag-team post by j (her “voice” in italics) and Trista.
When I was a teenager, just beginning to come out to myself, I bought a book of lesbian short stories.  In the collection was the story “When it Changed” by Joanna Russ.  This story blew me away.  It encapsulated every amorphous feeling that I was [...]

Sickening

This makes me sick.
Parrott’s ruling ordered Emma Rose to be returned to Deborah Schultz within 10 days, or be declared a “deprived child” and turned over the Georgia Department of Family & Children Services. Hadaway and Shultz met at a truck stop in Jeffersonville, Ga., on Jan. 12, 2007, but Shultz refused to take Emma [...]

Some Blogging 101 notes, copied from my neighbor

Usually we talk here about our families: the many ways we bring them together and shepherd them, the joys we experience and the challenges we face along the way. But today I want to share some thoughts about the medium, rather than the message. Some of the tips I paste below might be [...]

The Desperate (Queer) Housewife

Let me tell you, I find it quite odd how exciting the words “Honey! I’m home!” have become for me in the past year. As many of you know, I have been home full time with my son, and will be heading back to work and school at the end of April. Although I am [...]

Must be funny, in a rich man’s world

As a family of two things are pretty great for us right now. We both work and make enough money to pay our bills, drive a safe vehicle, eat out occasionally (ok, more than that but we’re working on it) and pretty much do as we please. There isn’t often a real financial stretch for [...]
