And the Winner Was…
Posted by Liza under News!!!
Perez Hilton. That’s who won the 2007 Bloggie for Best GLBT Blog.
I’m not sufficiently detached to claim that I’m not disappointed at all, but I have to admit, I’m not surprised. And I’m not very disappointed. Calling it “apples to oranges” doesn’t even convey it. Maybe grilled cheese sandwiches to tequila is a better simile?
LesbianFamily.org is an earnest ‘lil community-driven, volunteer-written, ad-free blog with a Technorati ranking of about 45,000. (That means it’s roughly the 45,000th most popular blog on the Internet.) We have a wonderful community, and I think it’s a valuable resource for lesbians and our extended families, now and into the future. I’m pretty excited that we broke the 50,000 mark.
By contrast, Perez Hilton has a Technorati ranking of 40.
Yes, you read that right: 40. There are only 39 blogs on the whole entire Internet that more people link to than PerezHilton.
Maybe I should post more pictures of Justin Timberlake and Marc Jacobs? Or Britany Spears allegedly hitting on female go-go dancers?
Nah.
Other nominees included Queerty (Technorati ranking of 2073), Scott-o-Rama (Technorati ranking of 11,326), and the sadly now closed Daily Dose of Queer (Technorati ranking 23,113).
So yeah, we’re smaller and less well known than the other nominees. It was an honor to just have been nominated.
Congratulations, Perez Hilton! And a huge thank you to everyone who nominated LesbianFamily, everyone who voted for us, and Friend of the Family, Susie Wyshak of SuperViva, who went to the award ceremony at SXSW on our behalf, in case we won.
(Check out Susie’s site. It’s a very cool social networking site based on inspiring you to fulfill on your Big Life Dreams.)

Well, for what it’s worth, I was a little disappointed too. I was hoping that someone, anyone, would beat Perez, but the odds of the happening were slim. I don’t think Perez should have been nominated in our category. It’s a bit like having a MLB team play the Little League.
Keep your chin up, keep blogging, and remember that you have a lot of loyal readers who do feel you are award-worthy. Don’t let a simple popularity contest get you down.
