Liza- I thought of you last week when I was seething while reading this survey in OB's office. I even took it home to send to you... but of course you beat me to it.
I found it to be completely devisive. "Hey New Moms! Let's be enemies!" "Don't feel like you are already judged enough? Well here you go!"
I would probably not have even finished reading it if I hadn't been stuck waiting for so long.

Thanks, everybody! Shelley, that's a very funny way to deal with junk mail.

Shelli, I was surprised by the total blank on adoption too! I mean, as a lesbian mom, I go through life semi-expecting to be marginalized. But adoption touches such a wide range of the population, I wouldn't expect a publication like Babytalk to miss it.

Liza, great response, thanks for taking the time to work on waking them up a bit.

This kind of "coverage" is crazy-making! Clearly, the folks who write and/or edit this stuff need to get out of their heteronormative cocoons!

My favorite? The junkmail we get from dating services that don't include same-sex options. I fill their postage-paid envelopes with all manner of other junkmail and send it on back with a note explaining that their categories are so narrow as to be useless.

Nice advocacy! That kind of thing pisses me off. It seems like such a token effort to be inclusive, but 1 question among 27 (and on a survey you already had to hold your nose to pick) is not what I would call "inclusive."
